This certificate officially recognizes Union Peak Lookout, Granite County, Montana, as meeting those standards of historic and cultural significance established by the American Resources Group, Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the Forest Fire Lookout Association, the National Forestry Association, State Historic Preservation Officers, and State and Federal forestry agencies.

The Blackfoot Forest Protective established Union Peak Lookout as a crow's nest tree platform in 1930. Five years later it was replaced by a 70' steel tower. In 1963 the present 15'x15' groundhouse was built with a slightly sloped gable-flattop roof. In 1973 the Montana Dept. of Natural Resources and Conservation assumed responsibility for the lookout. It will be listed on the National Lookout Register until it reaches 50 years in 2013.
