Sráid an Chapaill Bhuí
Ó chapaill bhána
go capall buí
Dála Shráid Phádraig in aice láimhe, b’uiscebhealach mór é Sráid an Chapaill Bhuí tráth dá raibh, uiscebhealach a bhí díreach lasmuigh de bhalla thoir Chorcaigh na meánaoiseanna. Bhí Caisleán na Banríona, a meastar gurb é atá ar Armas Chorcaí, suite ar thaobh amháin an uiscebhealaigh seo.
Grand Parade
From a grand canal
to a grand parade
Like nearby St Patrick’s Street, Grand Parade was once a major waterway that flowed just outside the eastern wall of medieval Cork. The Queen’s Castle, thought to be depicted on Cork’s Coat of Arms, was located on one side of this waterway.

Slógadh polaitiúil de chuid Éamon De Valera c. 1930, cúpla bliain tar éis dó a pháirtí polaitíochta, Fianna Fáil, a bhunú. Ba mhinic a bhíodh imeachtaí móra polaitiúla ar siúl ar Shráid an Chapaill Bhuí.

Sráid na beirte Seoirse
In aice láimhe tá Sráid Washington, ceann de mhórbhealaí na cathrach. Nuair a críochnaíodh i 1824 é tugadh Great George’s Street air, ach dála go leor áiteanna i gCorcaigh athainmníodh ina dhiaidh sin é. Ba as George eile, céad uachtarán Mheiriceá, a ainmníodh an uair sin é.

The Street of Two Georges
Nearby is Washington Street, one of the city’s major thoroughfares. When it was completed in 1824 it was called Great George’s Street, but like lots of places in Cork it was later re-named, this time after another George, the first American president.

Fearann fáilte an faoileann, slán guíonn an ghéis,
Is le muir téann Laoi.’

‘They may talk about London, and Paris, and Milan,
And Constantinople, the pride o’ the Turk
But away in the south of our own little island
Is a place that excels them — its name is Cork.’
