Yemassee in Jasper County, South Carolina — The American South (South Atlantic)
Live Oak
Quercus Virginiana
| | 🌳 | |
The Live Oak creates vast natural canopies that can spread over 100 feet wide and last for centuries. These magnificent trees are master survivors, having evolved to withstand hurricanes by developing deep root systems and wood so dense it was once prized for shipbuilding. Our Live Oaks emerged in the mid-1700s. The massive branches support other plants like the gray strands of hanging Spanish Moss and Resurrection Fern which looks withered when it is dry but becomes green again after a rain.
