1. Boothe Granary Marker

Inscription. Hyrum E. Boothe built this granary on Main Street in Grantsville about 1875. It was located adjacent to the large barn on the Boothe property. This granary is unique in that it possesses the inside-out design used in most granaries but it also has tongue and groove siding for the outside wall. As with other granaries, placing a wooden wall on the inside provided a smooth surface that was ideal for storing grain. The door on this granary is also unique in its fancy design and construction. Just about every farm had a granary on its property.

The Boothe family started the journey across the plains in 1852. Only eleven- year-old Hyrum completed the trip. The orphaned Hyrum stayed under the care of the Adams Company commander and arrived in the Great Salt Lake Valley in 1852.

Hyrum and his wife, Sarah Ann Hunter, raised seven children on 400 acres of land in Grantsville. His son, William, sold the granary to Earl (Red) and Twylla (Toni) Allred. The Allred's sold the granary to Richard and Karene Davis in 1967. The Davis's sold the property to R & D Construction and Development with the agreement that the granary

would be preserved and donated for historical purposes. The granary was donated to the Benson Grist Mill Historic Site in 1997.
