1. Liddell Granary Marker

Inscription. The Liddell Granary was built by Laurence Thompson Liddell in the early 1930's. It is an example of an inside-out granary. The outside siding was placed on the inside of the building framework so the grain would not push the siding off. This also provided a smooth wall that was ideal for storing grain. This granary had two interior walls to form three bins for storage of such grains as wheat, oats and barley.

The granary had a window at the top of the structure where the grain was unloaded, for storage in the granary. The building had chutes coming out of each bin with a sliding gate at the bottom of each chute which would release the grain as needed to feed the animals or to take to the Mill to be ground into flour. Just about every farm had a granary on its property.

The Liddell granary was donated by DeLaun Blake and moved to the Benson Grist Mill Historic Site in 1990 from the east side of Liddell Lane in Erda, Utah a small farming community south of the Mill.
