Rockwell's Original Station
| | In Search of the Pony Express | |
"Rockwell's" pony express station was 38 feet distant on a true azimuth of 323 degrees from this site. It was a commodious place owned by famed Mormon frontiersman and lawman Orrin Porter Rockwell. The site was known as the Hot Springs Brewery Hotel. The site also had an adobe stable with corrals.
This was the only station between Salt Lake City and Camp Floyd used by the Pony Express. Starting on July 1, 1861 a near daily stagecoach service was added to the twice a week Pony Express. New stations were now needed and added for this extra service and they would also be used by the Pony Express.
The new added station from Salt Lake City to here was Traders Rest and from here to Fort Crittenden, formerly Camp Floyd, was Joe Dorton's site known as "Dug Out"
