This barrier island, with its white sandy beaches, is a 37-mile-long paradise. It's most famous for the wild ponies that have been roaming the beaches since the late 1600s. Both Assateague Island National Seashore and Assateague State Park offer short hiking and biking trails as well as paddling, swimming, fishing, birding, and camping.
