Admiral Coontz
Admiral Robert Coontz was born in Hannibal in 1864. He joined the United States Navy in 1881 and served until 1928. He held Commands of the Fifth Naval District, the United States Fleet, the USS Georgia, and also Chief of Naval Operations. He was the Governor of Guam from 1912-1913.
Coontz fought in the Spanish-American War, Philippine-American War and WWI. He is a recipient of the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.
