Inscription. In 1903, mason Charles McNallie built this "rock store house" for James A. King. Photographs indicate that the building once had a wood frame second story, which suggests that it may have been used to store fruit. Remnants of the lime plaster that was scored to resemble an ashlar stone wall - a method of trompe d'oeil (French for "deceive the eye") - can still be seen. After the upper story was removed, the lower stone structure was used as storage for roots and vegetables.
