The Hoosier Flag Lady
In 1966, Mrs. Mary Lou Kieswetter of Munster, Indiana, mother of a young serviceman, became concerned by the lack of respect for the American flag. She launched a personal crusade that has ignited a flame of patriotism throughout our country.
Her timeless efforts led to the organizing of the Indiana Council for the Encouragement of Patriotism in 1968. (National 1969) As founder and director of the council, it has been through her inspirational leadership that this memorial to our flag and all servicemen and women was erected in 1975.
