De Veer is a ground-sailer windmill located in the Veerpolder in Haarlem, near Penningsveer.(Submitted on June 9, 2026.)
A windmill has stood on this site since 1701. It originally drained the Veerpolder into the Rijnland water storage basin. The predecessor to the current mill burned down in 1998.
Construction of the current mill began in 2001. Although the mill is technically capable of grinding, it is usually operated only for rotation. The sail configuration features Old Dutch rigging on the outer stock, while the inner stock uses the Fauel system with adjustable flaps.
