1. Newsome Family Cemetery Marker
Established in 1847, Newsome Family Cemetery is the hallowed final resting place for the descendants of James Carter Newsome and Nancy Eliza Jane Morris Newsome. Following the Creek Indian Treaty of 1832, Levi Perry purchased the property from Nick Ny in 1841. Originally called Perry Cemetery, the oldest grave in the cemetery belongs to Levi Perry, who died in 1847. Following several changes in ownership, James Carter Newsome purchased the approximately 2-acre cemetery property from Charles T. Porter in March 1888. Generations of the Newsome family continue to reverently and lovingly nurture and maintain the cemetery grounds.
