Inscription. Constructed in 1880, this structure originally belonged to the Quartermaster, from whom clothing and supplies were distributed for the Home. In 1891, two wings were added, and the Putnam Library collections were relocated here from Headquarters. In the years that followed, this library was regarded as one of the finest in the state of Ohio, and was in daily use by patients until the year 2000. A great number of the books and works of art were donated by the author Mary Lowell Putnam of Massachusetts in memory of her son, Lt. William Putnam, who lost his life during the Civil War.
