Inscription. The Black Lives Matter installation at Hiram College came to fruition as a collaborative effort by the 2020-21 Student Senate Executive Board and Black Student Union Club Officers, supported by many other students, faculty, staff, and trustees. Designed by Columbus-based muralist, Lisa McLymont, and illustrated by Cleveland-based artist and activist, Abdul Rashid, the art seeks to capture, in the context of peaceful social action, the emotions that are evoked when acts of injustice occur.

Erected to honor and commemorate those who have fallen victim to racial violence or social injustice, the installation serves as a constant reminder of the College's commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as the need for continual efforts to guarantee full human rights for all.

May this installation stand as a testament to our commitment as Hiram student leaders to advance equity and racial justice both at Hiram College and in broader society.

Erected by Hiram College.
