[Gaeilge:]
An 11 Aibreán 1912, cuireadh an Titanic ar ancaire cúpla ciliméadar amach ón gcósta nuair a rinne sé a stad deiridh ag Baile na Banríona.

Rinne dhá bhád freastail, an PS America agus PS Ireland a bhí á n-oibriú ag gníomhairí áitiúla an White Star line, James Scott & Co, an 123 paisinéir nua a thabhairt ar bhád farantóireachta chun dul ar an long ollmhór. Cuireadh os cionn 1000 mála poist le haghaidh Nua-Eabhrac ar an aistear gearr freisin.

Mheas beirt phaisinéirí go raibh an t-ádh orthu gur shroich siad díreach sular fhág na báid freastail. Shroich Nellie O’Dwyer, a bhí 22 bliain d’aois agus John Kennedy 24 bliain d’aois, díreach in am nuair a cuireadh moill ar a dtraein nuair a d’fhág sé Luimneach níos luaithe an mhaidin sin. Leanadh leo an t-ádh a bheith orthu mar gur mhair an bheirt acu an tóin poill ceithre lá ina dhiaidh sin.

new passengers across to join the massive ship. Over 1000 bags of mail for New York also made the short journey.

Two passengers considered themselves lucky to get here just before the tenders set off. 22 year-old Nellie O’Dwyer and John Kennedy aged 24 both arrived in the nick of time as their train was delayed leaving Limerick earlier that morning. Their luck held as both survived the sinking just four days later.

An Raibh a Fhios Agat? And Another Thing:

• Bunaithe ag Thomas Ismay (1837–1899) sa bhliain 1868, d’ainmnigh an White Star Line, ar leis an Titanic, a gcuid long go léir le focail dar críoch ‘-ic’. I measc na longa eile ina bhflít bhí Britannic, Baltic, Republic agus Majestic.

• Ar an mbealach amach chuig an Titanic, chuaigh an PS America agus PS Ireland thar teach solais an Spit Bank atá fós i bhfeidhm. Dhear an t-nnealtóir dall Alexander Mitchell (1780–1868) an teach solais nuálach seo agus scriúáiltear é go grinn isteach i ngrinneall na farraige.

[English:]
On the way out to the Titanic, the PS America and PS Ireland passed the Spit Bank lighthouse which still operates. This innovative lighthouse was designed by a blind engineer Alexander Mitchell (1780–1868) and is literally screwed into the seabed.
