To commemorate the founders, employees, suppliers and customers of
Shandon Dairy Ltd.,
Dungarvan Co-Operative Creamery Ltd., 1921–1964
Waterford Co-Operative Society Ltd., 1964–1988
Waterford Foods Plc., 1988–1997
Avonmore Waterford Group Plc., 1997–1999

These companies, together with a committed and innovative workforce, developed on this site a food processing facility of the highest international standards. This plaque is raised in tribute to the foresight, courage and enterprise of the founders and to the workforce who, by their endeavours, made a historic contribution to the industrial, commercial and social life of Dungarvan and County Waterford.

It was not until 1920 that a co-operative creamery was set up in Dungarvan...a premises was acquired and fitted out at the northwest corner of Grattan Square (backing on to the rear of Shandon Dairies) and Simon Fitzpatrick, previously of Dromtariffe Co-op in Cork was appointed first manager. The first milk was taken on in May 1921. The committee of the new co-op clearly were an ambitious group, as a grain mill was quickly installed and began operations in 1922.

Near the entrance to the longtime co-op, a statue named "Daily Balance" stands as a salute to the dairy industry. The marker can be seen in the rear of this photo.
