People Throughout Time
For thousands of years, people have called these hills home. Archaeologists have found the remains of a Chumash village in the park. This was likely Talepop, home to many Chumash who entered Mission San Fernando around 1800. Their descendants still live near here today.

· Can you hear music or singing? Guitars and portable music players may have replaced whistles, clapper sticks, rattles, and bullhorns, but raising voices in song and playing musical instruments is a timeless tradition.
· The Chumash traveled over the hills to the village of Humawilu. You can drive over the same hills to visit the same town, known today as Malibu.
· Can you smell smoke? Both the Chumash and campers use fire to cook food and to help stay warm.
