Inscription.
German immigrant William P. Jungclaus established a general contracting firm in Indianapolis with family in the 1870s. In 1895, he incorporated the William P. Jungclaus Co. as its successor and opened its headquarters and mill site here. The company's construction projects shaped the Indianapolis landscape and contributed to the city's industrial and commercial culture.

The company worked with notable local architects to build landmarks such as the Murat Shrine Temple, Columbia Club, Madam C.J. Walker Building, Circle Tower, Indiana State Library, and a French Lick Springs Hotel expansion. It also met community needs by constructing schools, hospitals, and industrial buildings across Indiana. It became the Jungclaus-Campbell Co. by 1980.
