1. Rose Island Trail Marker
Inscription.
From the 1880s until the 1930s, the Fern Grove and Rose Island resorts provided good fun and lively entertainment for generations. This trail will lead you down to the form site of these two parks, and take you back to the laughter and noise of a bygone era.

The trail to Rose Island is just under one mile long, but has an elevation drop of almost 287 feet. There is a long, steep hill down the river bluff to the site. NOTEL You will need to climb up this hill upon your return. Please consider you physical condition before taking this trail. Staff may not be available to assist you. Consider taking the other half of Trail 3 back up the hill.

An Iron Bridge crosses Fourteen Mile reek, where a .9-mile loop trail will guide you through the Rose Island site and the features that remain.

Why the Big Hill?
The path of the Ohio River marks the southern edge of a glacial advance. As the glaciers melted and receded north, torrents of meltwater cut a deep valley. The trail to Rose Island takes you down into the Ohio River Valley.
