Getting to the Island by Suspension Bridge
An Adventure to Begin the Day
To get to Rose Island, visitors drove a steep and winding road from Highway 62 to the west side of Fourteen Mile Creek. After parking their cars on the creeks banks, visitors crossed the creek on a wooden suspension bridge.
Swingin Good Time!
Children called the 400-foot suspension a swinging bridge even though it moved up and down, not side to side. Boys loved to jump on the bridge, causing it bounce and frighten the girls.
I played on that swinging bridge constantly. My sister would get on there and Id get that thing moving and bouncing, shed get to screaming and mother would give me heck. Marvin Bernhart
