Perfect Ending to a Perfect Day
For guests at the Rose Island resort, an evening in the Dance Hall was the perfect end to a summer day. While live music played, couples waltzed and tangoed across the dance floor. By the late 1920s and early 1930s, new dance crazes such as the Lindy hop and Charleston emerged. Flappers and Fashion
Young men and women of the 1920s put their own stamp on style. Ladies with short bobbed hairstyles, close-fitting hats, short skirts, and long beads were called flappers. Men in raccoon coats carrying ukuleles were dubbed sheiks.

“There was a dance hall that doubled as a [roller] skating rink during the day. They had an organist who would play music for the skaters. One of the favorites was the Skater’s Waltz. Thy would clean the floor off and put dance wax on the floor for the dancers.” – Charles M. Ruck

Did you know?
Prior to the 1920s, it was considered scandalous if dancers bodies touched one other.
