Inscription.
The course of Bill Marvel’s life was set in motion when his father attended the 1914 Indianapolis 500. Clem acquired a passion for racing that his son soon embraced. Born in 1930, Bill first journeyed to the Speedway in 1935. But, it was 1941, at his first 500, when racing fully captivated him. In 1953 Bob Laycock made him part of the Speedway PR team. On vacation from Indiana Bell, he worked without pay for years, loving every minute. That love led to an incredible, diverse, accomplished life in racing.

Working tirelessly, he became Pocono and Texas World Speedway’s General Manager. As a Vice President, he led USAC’s PR, Marketing and Benevolent Foundation. He promoted, wrote, and even did PR for the Indiana Pacers. Racing has brought blessings, but also pain. He proudly saw sons, Bill Jr and Brad, follow him into the sport, bur grieved when Bill Jr died racing in 1983. Still, Bill loves racing and raced stock cars himself. And he’s gratified his family continues the “Marvelous Marvel” legacy by their avid involvement.
