Welcome to Hadley Valley - Route 6 Access
Year Round: 8 a.m. - sunset
Preservation plans developed in the mid-1980s guided land acquisition. The Forest Preserve has been assembling Hadley Valley Preserve since 2000, purchased through successful bond referendums in 1999 and 2005. Groundbreaking for restoration and preserve and trail improvements began in 2006, with site opening in 2009. Hadley Valley now encompasses 658 acres.
Restoration of the site was made possible through a unique partnership with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority for mitigation of wetlands and forest related to the development of 1-355 Extension, and with the US Army Corps of Engineers through the O'Hare Modernization Mitigation Account. Over 500 acres have been restored to date.
Wetland Restoration Take a look at Spring Creek's gentle curves and turns, called meanders. Spring Creek's meanders, riffles, and pools have been restored. The gently curving stream and healthy wetland you see today show the Forest Preserve's commitment to enhance local wetlands.

Conserving and restoring wetlands offers extensive benefits to animals, plants, and people. As the Forest Preserve protects and restores wetlands, you have the opportunity to explore and enjoy them.
