Tyranny threatened Europe and Asia. The United States stayed neutral, but sent aid to key allies through the Lend Lease Act. The British had "Their Finest Hour" in the skies over England. Closer to home, the film "Citizen Kane" premiered. Franklin D. Roosevelt won a historic third term despite a challenge from Indiana University alumnus Wendell Willkie. The campus grew with the addition of the IU Auditorium. One of the nation's first cyclotrons went into operation. The men's outdoor track and field team brought home a Big Ten championship.
