1. Suburban Habitat Marker
Inscription. A century ago, Illinois was dominated by native prairie with areas of Oak woodlands and rich wetland habitats. A diverse community of plants and wildlife thrived within these areas. As the land was converted into farms and communities were developed, only small pockets of these habitats remained. This 1 acre is a re-creation of a native Illinois landscape. By replanting prairie plants we're helping to reestablish a pocket of habitat where nature can flourish.
