Lisle in DuPage County, Illinois — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Kitchen Garden & Yender Outhouse
Turn around to take a look at the Yender Family Outhouse. This outhouse was used by the Yender family when they lived in this farmhouse. The outhouse contains three seats two are adult-sized and one is child-sized. When the Yenders' built it, they included a small cavity behind the seats which drew air out of the building, increasing ventilation. In addition, Mrs. Yender always kept flowers in the window, which helped the space to smell better in spite of its purpose. Andy Yender, who lived in the house before it was donated, had memorized that the outhouse was exactly 40 steps from the back porch of the farmhouse. Please note that the Yender Outhouse is no longer operational.
