The reclamation of Eierland (3,300 hectares) in 1835 increased Texel's surface area by one-sixth. In addition to the original land, Texel consisted of many small polders, each headed by a dike reeve. Eierland was so large that it was assigned its own dike reeve, secretariat, and administration. Just as there was a Polder House at the Vismarkt in Den Burg, the building at Kikkertstraat 59 in De Cocksdorp was designated as a Polder House.
The Eierland polder was created in 1835 following the diking of the Buitenveld, a salt marsh located east of the Zanddijk.
This drift-sand dike was constructed around 1630using woven brushwood matsbetween the dunes of De Koog and the former small island of Eyerland.
This sand dike and the polder above the Ruigendijk determined the shape of Texel.
