1. Pvt. Paul Bonnel Marker

Inscription. Born in 1762 in New Jersey. He Enlisted in 1782 from Philadelphia for the war in the Light Horse and marched to Carlisle as a Private under Col Richard Butler, He guarded the British prisoners at Lancaster in 1783. He served again in the War of 1812 for 18 months with the 19th U.S. Infantry. He was wounded in the head May 4th, 1813, at the Siege of Ft. Meigs. He was discharged April 26, 1814. In February of 1815 Paul reenlisted with the 17th U.S. Infantry. He was discharged April 19th, 1815. He died Aug 26, 1820, and is buried, alongside his wife Mary, at the Hamilton Burying Ground, now Symmes Park, Butler County, OH"

More about this marker. As his Eagle Scout Project, Zack Kramer commissioned a ground penetrating radar study of 1000 square foot corner of the park. He had documented evidence of Paul Bonnel's daughter claiming her father and mother still remain in unmarked graves in the northeast corner of the park, once all the marked graves were removed to Greenwood Cemetery. The radar did in fact find two sets of remains. One slightly on top of the other. Since his wife predeceased him, he in presumed to be the one doing the overlapping. He is to his wife's right. If you sit on the bench, the head of his grave is at your feet to the right. Mary is to your left.
