“Rinne saighdiúirí Sasanacha sléacht ar mo mhuíntir agus thiomáin siad iad óna dtithe. Tá rún daingean agam troid ina n-aghaidh. Tá an Dún seo cosanta go maith ag saighdiúirí, ach tá sé curtha faoi léigear againn cúpla uair cheana féin.
Níos faide ó dheas, tá fir dár gcuid faoi cheannas Uaithne (mac Ruairí) Ó Mórdha tar éis an lámh in uachtar a fháil ar Iarla Essex ag Bearna na gCleití. Tá dóchas inár gcroí go n-éireoidh linn stad a chur leis na Sasanaigh i Laois, ach tá siad ag bunú coilíneachtaí mar seo fud fad na hÉireann agus sa Domhan Nua fiú.”
“My family were massacred and driven from their homes by English troops. I am determined to fight them. This Fort is protected well by soldiers, but we have besieged it a couple of times already.
Further south, our men, under our leader Owny McRory O’More, have defeated the Earl of Essex at the Pass of the Plumes. There is hope we can stop the English in Laois, but they are setting up colonies like this all over Ireland and even the New World.”
