Lebanon in Russell County, Virginia — The American South (Mid-Atlantic)
Confederate Monument
Proposed in 1904, this monument honoring the Confederate soldiers of Russell County was unveiled to the public on June 18, 1914. The monument was delivered to Cleveland, VA (the nearest railroad station), then brought to Lebanon on a one-log freight wagon drawn by six mules. Because it created a traffic hazard, the monument was moved from the center of the intersection to its present location in 1944.
Erected 2005 by Sean Gates, Eagle Scout Project.
