(English translation:)
The Gele Buurt (“Yellow Neighborhood”) was built during the founding of Nieuwdorp — later known as De Cocksdorp. A postcard from around 1900 shows a row of primitive cottages next to the 'De Hoop' inn. In 1906, a request was made to rebuild them using brick, and a year later, an application was submitted to install a rainwater cistern for each dwelling.

The Eierland polder was created in 1835 following the diking of the Buitenveld, a salt marsh situated east of the Zanddijk.

This drift-sand dike was constructed around 1630—using woven brushwood mats—between the dunes of De Koog and the former small island of Eyerland.

This sand dike and the polder north of the Ruigendijk determined the shape of Texel.
