1. St Fintan's Hospital Marker

Inscription. This hospital was founded in 1833 as the District Lunatic Asylum for Queen’s County, King’s County, Longford and Westmeath. It became known as Portlaoise District Mental Hospital in 1925. A substantial extension in red brick was added in the 1930s. At its peak in the 1940s, it housed 750 patients. In 1983 it was renamed St Fintan’s Hospital.
