1. The Gate Lodge Marker
As a Pruyn family guest, you would have arrived here at the gate lodge after crossing an elegant Pratt truss steel bridge (1893). Created in the late 19th century as a retreat for the Robert C. Prun family, Camp Santanoni was more than a vacation home. It was also a working landscape with almost 13,000 acres of timberland, farm and sugarbush.
The gate lodge, constructed in 1905, marked the entrance to the exclusive estate and was the superintendent's residence. Living areas overlooked Fishing Brook so that residents could enjoy the restful sound of running water and the sunny southern exposure.
Designed by the architectural firm Delano & Aldrich to take advantage of natural features, the massive fieldstone arch frames a striking vista of Lake Harris and the mountains beyond.
