1. The Bartram Trail Marker

Inscription. William Bartram (1739-1823) was a Pennsylvania Quaker who explored the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains in the spring of 1775. He was an artist, botanist, and advocate for indigenous people, and described his four-year journey throughout the Southeastern United States in his 1791 publication Travels, which remains in print. The 112-mile-long Bartram National Recreation Trail in Georgia and North Carolina was created to honor his legacy, which remains significant to this day.
