1. C.S. Golden House Marker
One of the oldest homes in Thomaston, the C.S. Golden House was built in 1898 in a Queen Anne-style by Cecil Stanford Golden. The son of a wealthy foundry owner in Columbus, Georgia, Golden came to Marengo County one summer as a young man to visit relatives when he met and married Mary Louise Buck, daughter of John Wesley and Martha Buchannon Buck. According to family members, Golden built this house for his bride. Instrumental in the development of Thomaston, Golden served as mayor and established many businesses in the town, including a cotton gin, telephone service, a bank, a cattle farm, and a general store.
