1. Peace after War Marker

Inscription. 32 men from Mt Evelyn served in World War I. During the war and the 1920s, the first businesses were established around the station. In 1918 land in Watkins Crescent was donated for a church, in thanksgiving for the Armistice. The Evelyn Sunday School raised funds for construction of the Union Church, shown here on its opening day in 1920. Various denominations used the church, which was also rented to Mt Evelyn Primary School as an extra classroom. Like other historic churches, it is now privately owned.
