Across the road from the Methodist Church and a little to the north, The first store in the community built of popular logs in the 1840s, became an early stage stop, along the newly built Stagecoach Rd. The stagecoach carried passengers and mail. A horn was sounded when the stage was ready to pull out. Under the hill was a good spring. In 1850 a post office was established at this location. A salesman from Paducah lost a $20 bill, on his next visit, Scott returned to him his money. The salesman suggested the name Scotts Hill. This is the only post office in the country named Scotts Hill. Cager was the first general merchant, his honesty and store location inspired the town's name. The lot is privately owned and not open to the public.
