On March 19, 1961, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the sermon "This is a Great Time to Be Alive" at Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, sponsored by the Duval County Citizens Benefit Corporation and the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, reflecting the role of Jacksonville's faith and civic leadership in contributing to the civil rights movement nationally.
