“All Gave Some and Some Gave All”. Lasting Legacy Park Veterans Memorial. , Behind every name on these bricks is the story of a man or woman who believed in duty and sacrifice to this great nation. Their stories crisscross the globe and speak of glory, honor and sacrifice of individuals who became part of a greater whole, and while their stories are far too large to condense on a plaque, a group of local veterans wanted to ensure their names would not be forgotten. , On April 29, 2010, the Bricks for Vets Committee formed with the purpose of expressing gratitude to all who served this great nation. Comprised of citizens from local organizations, including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Gillette City Council, City of Gillette staff, Campbell County Commissioners, Campbell County Parks and Recreation staff, Mayor's Art Council and the Donkey Creek Festival, the committee established a plan to engrave the names of veterans with local ties on bricks that would be located in Lasting Legacy Park as a permanent memorial. These bricks would create a “Wall of Heroes” with the premise that “All Gave Some and Some Gave All.” , Bricks for Vets also undertook the task of adding stone edifices to the War Memorial here at Lasting Legacy Park , which honor local soldiers who lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. , The committee developed an interest in “United We Stand,” a sculpture by Ben Foster of Lander, Wyoming, which highlights the spirit and simple grace of Rocky Mountain patriotism. In “United We Stand,” the Bricks for Vets committee recognized the spirit of American values they wanted to represent in their memorial. , The committee incorporated the “Wall of Heroes” concept by placing engraved bricks around the bases of the “United We Stand” sculptures and began working diligently to raise money and in-kind donations from local businesses and individuals. By 2011, those efforts had been aided with grants from the Marna M. Kuehne Foundation and the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, along with sponsorships from the City of Gillette and Campbell County. , In October 2012, the work began here at the site, and “United We Stand” was moved into place and dedicated on Veterans Day, November 11, 2012.
