1. Forbidden Marker
Johnse Hatfield, the oldest son of Devil Anse Hatfield, and Roseanne McCoy, the beautiful daughter of Randolph McCoy, were doomed in their romance from the first second they laid eyes upon each other.
The forbidden love that developed inflamed an already tenuous relationship between the two families due to the Civil War fractures.
It was a short-lived tryst that soon set in motion a cascade of deadly events that led to the world famous Hatfield/McCoy Feud.
During the feud, Roseanne and her family moved to Pikeville to a house on Main Street which is now a historical landmark. Randolph, his wife Sally, and Roseanne McCoy are buried at the Dils Cemetery on Chloe Road in Pikeville.
