1. Dog-Banning Proposal Marker
In 2000, the Gillette City Council considered banning dogs from McManamen Park from March 1 to October 1 during the nesting season. The shallow water, which provides a source of food and the nesting habitat consisting of areas of relatively undisturbed environment, are critical to the park's use as a waterfowl refuge. After receiving input from the community, it was decided to allow dogs in the park as long as they were on a leash. The council also decided to post educational signs to tell why it was important to keep the dogs away from nesting birds in the park.
