Inscription.
This young man has paused for a moment of reflection on his way to deliver his pig to the butcher at Hamblen's General Store.

While the pig was raised to slaughter, parting was sometimes not that easy.

At the start of the 20th century, most daily life still revolved around farming. It was a family affair, requiring the assistance of every able-bodied family member.

Children were often removed from school during the vital planting and harvesting seasons and took on farming chores at an early age.
