Inscription.
In June 1964, following his detention in Jacksonville, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. appeared before the United States District Court at this site. The proceedings were part of federal actions addressing civil rights demonstrations in St. Augustine and reinforced the role of the courts in interpreting and upholding constitutional protections during the Civil Rights Movement.
