Inscription.
S.A. Michael J. Lynch was killed in the line of duty on December 16, 1982, when the twin-engine airplane being flown by FBI pilots crashed in Montgomery, Ohio, killing all six passengers on board. S.A. Lynch, along with three other FBI agents and a retired Chicago police officer, was accompanying a Federal prisoner to locate cash stolen from a Chicago bank that was hidden near Cincinnati, Ohio.

S.A. Lynch entered the FBI on March 8, 1976. He served in the Indianapolis division followed by the Chicago division where he was a skilled investigator and a member of the SWAT team.

S.A. Lynch served in the United States Air Force from April 11, 1966-February 2, 1970, as a C-130 Loadmaster during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the USAF Distinguished Flying Cross for his extraordinary achievement on February 14, 1968. Under extremely hazardous conditions, Staff Sgt. Lynch flew on a tactical emergency resupply airdrop of vitally needed supplies to friendly combat ground forces besieged at Khe Sanh.
