Is féidir an pháirc phoiblí is ársa i mbaile Átha Cliath a rianú siar go dtí na meánaoiseanna. Ghac Tionól na Cathrach le reacht i 1635 a dúirt “ní fáilfear ar chois ainmhí, moór ná beannach, de chuid Fhaiche Stiabhna ach coinneofar í mar áit siúlóid do na cathróirí agus leis an aer a ghlacadh”. Le linn an 18ú céad bhreathnaigh ar an bhFaiche mar lárnaid plánaireachta agus sóisire. D’athchóirigh an Tiarna Ardilaun an Fhaiche idir 1877 agus 1880 agus d’fhoscail ar an ghairdín den leá bhliall 22 acra sa stíl Victeoiriach le tírdhreacha iomacha bláthanna maille le locha agus le cosáin fásachta. Tá ról suntasach i gcónaí ag an bpáirc do chuairteoirí mar spás neamhghníomhach fóillíochta agus í ag an am céanna ag soláthar gnáthóg fiadhúlta i lár na Cathrach.

Saint Stephen’s Green Park
Dublin’s oldest public park can be traced back to medieval times. The City Assembly passed an ordinance in 1635: “That the land of St. Stephen’s Greene shall henceforth be still, but wholly kept for the use of the citizens and others to walke and take the open aier.” During the 1700s the Green was considered the centre for elegance and taste. Lord Ardilaun presented the Green to the Government and in 1880 opened this 22 acre park in the Victorian style with wonderful floral displays, lakes and shrubbery walks. Today the Green continues to play a major role for visitors as a passive recreational space whilst also providing a significant wildlife habitat in the centre of the city.
