1. Maritime Exchange Tower Marker

Inscription.
These concrete blocks are all that remain of the former signal tower, built around 1900, when Cove Point became a vessel reporting station. During daytime, keepers were required to report vessel movements to the Baltimore Chamber of Commerce, using one of the first telephones in Calvert County. The tower originally stood closer to the seawall, in the vicinity of the red brick building.
