Cove Point in World War II
The beaches just south of the lighthouse were used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps in World War II as a dress rehearsal for the large amphibious landings in Europe and the Pacific. Troops and landing craft operated from the naval amphibious training bases in Solomons and Little Creek, Virginia.
