1. Grandsire Holmes Cemetery Marker
Ralph Holmes gave this property for a public cemetery. Micager Scott, of whom the town was named after was the first adult burial in 1853. Other early burials are Ralph Holmes; Isaac Davenport, Union Soldier captured by General Forrest, survived two imprisonments at Andersonville and survived the sinking of the Sultana near Memphis, worst marine disaster in history; Benjamin F. Austin and Jesse Holmes, first members of the Church of Christ in 1872; Dr. Robert Wylie, practiced medicine and operated drugstore 1906 to 1958. 3 former mayors, 3 hometown doctors, 2 former principals and the grandparents of John Dancy, NBC Newscaster in the 1980s are also buried here. Public is welcomed, open gate under arch, close it back when you leave.
