1. The Dutch Mill Marker

Inscription. The Dutch Mill Motel and Restaurant served as a popular stop for travelers and locals alike. It was famous for its fried chicken, banana pudding, pineapple cake, and barbecue that was cooked and smoked just outside in a fire pit. All served with fresh vegetables from the farmers market each day. The Dutch Mill Motel and restaurant was the first formal sit down restaurant in Duluth.

It was located on US Highway 23 (aka Buford Highway) where Mr. and Mrs. Lowry Arnold and their two daughters, Dot Turner and Jean Corley built the beloved Dutch Mill in 1948. Mrs. Lenora Arnold was the secret recipe holder of the operation. When she became ill, the family decided to sell. After many years under the new owner's hands, it was sold and eventually demolished in 1998.

In a joint partnership with developers of Parsons Alley & the City of Duluth the 1948 Dutch Mill Motel sign has found a new home! Local Duluth resident Jason Moore rescued the sign back in 1998. Spotted recently at his shop, the sign has been restored and placed in Parsons Alley just off Main Street. Gwinnett Daily Post AJC #soduluth #duluthga
