1. Dubhlinn & The Poddle Marker

Inscription. Close to where you stand, Dublin’s name originated from ‘Dubhlinn’, meaning ‘Black Pool’ in Irish. This tidal pool was vital in shaping Dublin’s development.

In 841, the Vikings established a harbour here, known as a longphort. The River Poddle, once a key water supply for the city, played a crucial role in Dublin’s growth. Today, it runs underground, but you can discover how it once flowed through Medieval Dublin.
